The day is human: circle and story, outdoor classrooms, free play and lunch with friends, core learning, PE, and art. Afternoon closes the school day — not daycare. Instructional day runs 9:00–2:45 (K–5). Drop-off is 8:45–9:00; pickup is 2:45–3:00 — shorter on purpose at five to eight. Families who need a longer day may continue into Afternoon Programs after pickup.What fills the day
Rigor and nurture are not rivals. In the hands of an outstanding educator, they belong together: high expectations, consistency, and kindness.
We teach reading, writing, math, history, and science — core knowledge every child must master before critical thinking can mean much. We teach with urgency: once a child learns to read, real learning can begin. Cracking the phonological code — phonics, fluency, comprehension — is a first priority in a classroom of five to eight.
Curriculum is aligned across grades: consistent, cumulative, coherent. We know each child’s benchmarks, protect instructional minutes, and keep a school day intentionally shorter than at many private schools — as it should be at this size.
Educators attend to strengths and gaps, and to each child’s passions — the hooks that make rigor feel like discovery. The day includes PE and art. Science is a core subject in every primary classroom, taught by the classroom teacher who knows the child. Spanish and music will join as we welcome the right outstanding educators — and, in time, a science/STEAM/innovation specialist who deepens what classroom teachers already teach, plus maker work when children are ready — without rushing those hires.
